Water damage – a large costly problem
Every year a water damage survey is carried out by the Water Damage Center. This compiles the number of reported water damage. It also shows damage and where water damage has occurred. The 2013 summary showed that 30% of all reported water damage occurred in kitchens. It was mainly dishwashers and fittings that caused the damage. The survey also showed that the proportion of damage in the kitchen is as increased. At the same time, the proportion of damage in bathrooms decreased. The reason for the results is that we have more water-connected equipment in our kitchen today. The most common cause is leakage from the management system. Almost 20% of the total water damage was caused by leaks from installed equipment and connections. It includes dishwashers, water heaters, refrigerators / freezers, ice machines and aquariums. After 2013, the number of water damage in kitchens has continued to increase until 2016, when the proportion of water damage in kitchens amounted to 34%.
